Spotify’s disco ball icon isn’t staying

4

A lot of people looked at their phones this week and recoiled.

Spotify changed its app icon. Again. This time it looks like a shiny disco ball. If you weren’t expecting it, it’s ugly. And loud. See the difference?

  • Old: Green circle, sound waves. Clean.
  • New: Glittering sphere. Jarring.

You’re probably angry. Or just confused. Why would they do that? And more importantly, is it gone?

No. It won’t stay.

Spotify is turning 20. The company hit a milestone this week. The app launched in 2008, but the business itself is two decades old. So they dressed up the icon to celebrate. It’s a temporary cosmetic overhaul. A digital party hat.

There is a catch though.

To mark the occasion, they also added a special feature inside the app. It mimics that end-of-year Wrapped vibe but it lives permanently right now. You can dig through your own data.

Want to see the very first song you ever streamed? You can. Just be ready to cringe hard.

So the disco ball makes sense in context. It’s a birthday decoration. But the internet is rarely polite about forced rebrands. People are complaining online. They miss the clean green icon. They find the shift abrasive.

It’s valid to dislike it. Aesthetics matter.

But don’t panic. There’s nothing to worry about. Let the company celebrate itself for a bit. The icon will revert. Probably.

Until then, enjoy your embarrassment over your early music taste.
