Wordle #1831: The Q Problem

23

You’re stuck. The board is grey. And that first letter? The one you never, ever guess on your own. Q. It’s hiding there. Waiting.

If you need to bail before reading further, now’s the time. Look away. Don’t scroll. We have to put it out there.

The Clues

Let’s break it down without spoiling the mood. Or whatever mood you’re in.

Wordle #1 has a repeated letter. Just one pair.

Two vowels in total. One of them is part of that duplicate duo. You’ll see it twice.

First letter is Q. Last is R. That’s the frame. Fill in the middle.

It’s not just any word. It describes something odd. Strange. Maybe a little weird. History is messy here. Used to be a slur against marginalized people. Harsh stuff. Now? Lots of people have reclaimed it. They own the meaning again. It’s complicated, sure, but that’s where the word sits.

The Answer

Here it is. No more waiting.

Today’s Wordle answer is QUEER.

Simple, really. Except it’s not always simple to type that out in public. But it’s the puzzle today. Deal with it.

Yesterday, June 23 (No. 1830), the answer was CURRY. Spicier times.

If you missed earlier rounds:

  • June 22: OVATE
  • June 21: ALIBI
  • June 20: DRAKE
  • June 19: EMOJI

Start Strong? Try This.

Don’t gamble with rare letters first. Seriously. Avoid Z, J, and Q if you can. They’re traps for the impatient.

Lean on the heavy hitters. E, A, and R do most of the heavy lifting in English. Start with words that scream those letters.

  • ADIEU
  • TRAIN
  • CLOSE
  • STARE
  • NOISE

Good luck. Or don’t. You’ve got the hints. See you tomorrow, when the letters shuffle again and the cycle starts.
