Apple Prepares to Release iPhone 17e: A Mid-Range Upgrade Arriving Soon

Apple is gearing up to launch the iPhone 17e, a more affordable variant designed to refresh its mid-range lineup. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new device is expected to arrive “imminently,” following the pattern set by the iPhone 16e’s release in late February of last year.

Key Upgrades and Pricing

The iPhone 17e will feature several improvements over its predecessor, including Apple’s next-generation A19 chip and the welcome addition of MagSafe charging. The device will also incorporate Apple’s latest in-house cellular and wireless technology for improved connectivity. Despite these upgrades, Apple plans to maintain the same $599 price point as the previous model, keeping the 17e accessible to budget-conscious consumers.

Missing Features and Broader Product Updates

Notably, Gurman’s report omits any mention of the Dynamic Island, a feature previously rumored for the iPhone 17e. The original iPhone 16e still uses the older notch design, and it’s unclear if the 17e will introduce this advanced feature.

Apple’s product roadmap extends beyond just the iPhone. Gurman also indicates that new iPads – including standard and Air models – are on the horizon, though these are expected to retain their current designs with updated chips. The iPad mini will finally receive an OLED display upgrade, marking a significant improvement for that product line.

MacBook and Mac Studio Refresh Coming Soon

Additionally, Apple is preparing new MacBook Pro (14-inch and 16-inch) models with an M5 chip, as well as an updated MacBook Air. The Mac Studio is also slated for a refresh shortly after. The iPhone 17e will kick off what promises to be a busy year for Apple, with a steady stream of product releases throughout 2026.

Apple’s commitment to mid-range devices like the iPhone 17e signals a broader strategy of maintaining market share in cost-sensitive segments, while simultaneously pushing innovation in its higher-end products. The simultaneous release of refreshed iPads and MacBooks demonstrates a coordinated effort to keep its entire ecosystem up-to-date.
