Galaxy S26 Ultra display bleeding red

Samsung’s latest flagship is in trouble. Again.

Reports are surfacing from users who say their screens have taken on a bizarre reddish tint. It wasn’t supposed to happen. The Galaxy S26 Ultra launched with fanfare earlier this year. Reviews were glowing. Our own testing showed off the hardware brilliance. Then, within just a few months, things went sideways.

Korean news outlet Newsway first spotted the complaints. Now the internet is buzzing.

Samsung knows something is up.

When Mashable pressed for an answer, the company’s mobile reps stayed quiet. They will likely say nothing for now. Newsway did get a statement, though. Samsung says they are “currently examining the matter internally.” Boring. Corporate. But true. They admit there’s a cause. They just won’t tell us what it is.

Who’s to blame?

Online sleuths have a theory. A good one. They point a finger at Privacy Display.

It’s a fancy new feature exclusive to the S26 Ultra. The screen dims if someone stands near you, looking at your data from an angle. Smart for security. Maybe too smart. Given that only Ultra users seem affected, the suspicion makes sense. The privacy layer might be breaking.

Why now?

The device isn’t brand new. But defects like this often reveal themselves after the initial unboxing high fades. We tested the review units here. Ours? Perfectly fine. No red. No tint. Just blue light.

Is it hardware or software? Nobody knows the scale yet. It might be a batch defect. Or a glitch.

I should add one personal detail. I am partially color blind. To me? I can’t even see the defect. I guess I’m safe. If I’d bought one. I didn’t.

Samsung sits on its hands for now. We wait.
